Join Kansas City Teacher Residency

The Residency

The Kansas City Teacher Residency is a one-year program for college graduates and professionals who want to become exceptional teachers and transform the minds of our urban youth. Through the program, residents will be paired with mentor teachers, be immersed in rigorous coursework that leads to a master’s degree and earn teacher certification. After the residency year, program graduates will be ready to effectively lead their own classrooms in high-need public schools.

Resident Support & Incentives Include:

  • Help Kansas City students achieve strong academic gains

  • Address the urban teacher shortage crisis in Kansas City
  • Co-teach with a master teacher of record for one academic year
  • Access to continuous and extensive coaching, support, and training
  • Access to a network of resident alumni
  • $25,000 stipend during the residency year (can be used for living expenses)
  • Initial state of Missouri teaching certification
  • Master of Education from Park University

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university
  • Minimum of a 2.75 overall grade point average
  • Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
  • Prepared to make a three-year commitment to teach in an urban public school in Kansas City after completion of the Residency Year

(Please note: many of the requirements above are tied to Missouri Department of Education requirements for certification)


In order to complete the application, you will need the following materials:

  • An updated resume
  • An unofficial copy of your undergraduate transcript(s) (unofficial copies can be scans, photocopies or photos of official transcripts, or printouts of online transcripts).

Completing the application takes between 30-45 minutes.
