Become a Resident

The Kansas City Teacher Residency is a one-year program for college graduates and professionals who want to become exceptional teachers and transform the minds of our urban youth. Through the program, residents will be paired with mentor teachers, be immersed in rigorous coursework that leads to a master’s degree and earn teacher certification. After the residency year, program graduates will be ready to effectively lead their own classrooms in high-need public schools.

Resident Support & Incentives Include:

  • Help Kansas City students achieve strong academic gains
  • Become an educator for social justice
  • Address the urban teacher shortage crisis in Kansas City
  • Co-teach with a master teacher of record for one academic year
  • Access to continuous and extensive coaching, support, and training
  • Access to a network of resident alumni
  • $25,000 forgivable loan during the residency year (can be used for living expenses)
  • Initial state of Missouri teaching certification
  • Master of Education from Park University

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university
  • Minimum of a 2.8 overall grade point average
  • Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
  • Make a three-year commitment to teach in an urban public school in Kansas City

Teaching Areas:

  • Elementary (early childhood-sixth grade)
  • Secondary (English language arts, math and science)
