The Kansas City Teacher Residency (KCTR) believes that the Residency Model is an effective method of preparing teachers to be highly effective in the classroom. From the application process, to on boarding, to the Residency, our model is purposefully rigorous to prepare teachers for the intensity of the teaching profession. Throughout the year we offer different opportunities for education advocates, community leaders, and public donors to get a glimpse at the work that we do. If you are interested by educational equity in Kansas City but want to first understand more about what we do, you’ve come to the right place. See the upcoming opportunities that we have coming up below.

Selection Day Tour

In 2020, KCTR is inviting potential partners, donors and advocates to participate in a guided tour of Selection Day for a behind-the-scenes look at how we choose the best candidates to carryout the KCTR mission.

Every student in Kansas City deserves a committed teacher who believes in their ability to learn. Through KCTR’s recruitment and admissions process, we aim to identify those individuals and that final decision to admit a future teacher is made at Selection Day. Selection Day is a full day interview experience that includes live teaching demonstrations from candidates in a real classroom with students. Each of KCTR’s partnering charter schools and districts are in attendance at Selection Day and provide their evaluations of each candidate in this collaborative process.

Our next Selection Day will take place March 26th, 2020. To be added to the invite list for an upcoming VIP Selection Day Tour, please reach out to Brittney McGinley (

Lunch and Learn

Now more than ever, we’re eager to peel back the layers and have you witness the non-traditional approach that the urban teacher residency model brings to the teaching force.

KCTR Lunch and Learn is your opportunity for a “hands-on” look at how KCTR implements its model in a partner school. During the Lunch & Learn, we will interact with KCTR’s residency clinical training program and observe program Graduates teaching in the classroom. Seeing our people in action will lend a perspective into KCTR’s unique response to the demand for more highly-effective teachers in Kansas City’s urban schools. Lunch and Learns will rotate to different partnering charter and school districts as a way to showcase diverse classrooms and teachers. We would love to invite any interested partners, donors or advocates of KCTR’s mission.

If you are interested in partnering, donating, or advocating for KCTR and would like to receive updates on upcoming Lunch and Learn opportunities, please reach out to Brittney McGinley ( for more information.
