The Kansas City Teacher Residency (KCTR) held an exciting event at University Academy on Saturday afternoon. Our event was held at University Academy’s football field, and included KCTR staff, Instructors, Mentor Teachers, Principals, Residents, Resident Graduates, and friends and family of those stakeholders. Thanks to University Academy for allowing us to use their field for this event!
The event was a blast! Participants played yard games, including a spirited game of kickball. HyVee also provided us with some delicious BBQ catering, enjoyed by our event attendees.
There were other activities at the event as well. Attendees won gift cards, concert tickets, and swag items at our raffle fundraiser. Prizes came from local restaurants (Los Tules, Broadway Café, the Bristol, and Jalapeños) and other stores (Brookside Market). The proceeds for the fundraiser went to teachers’ classroom supplies.
The event was very hot, but attendees were able to beat the heat in our canopies. They also found shady spots to sit in. While hanging in the shade, Residents and Resident Graduates met with each other and discussed teaching as well as their social lives. Friends and family were also introduced to KCTR’s stakeholders.
All together, this was a positive social event to kick off the new school year for our Residents and Resident Graduates!
