The impact of the Mentor Teacher is multi-faceted. As a teacher leader, you are influencing students and your school community. As a mentor, you have the opportunity to widen that influence by empowering your Resident with effective and responsive teaching practices through modeling instructional practices and facilitating Resident reflection.

As part of the Mentor Teacher experience, you will meet and collaborate with a diverse network of teacher leaders who will challenge your thinking, share mentoring and instructional practices, and deepen your understanding of the education landscape. KCTR strives to cultivate a strong network of Mentor Teachers who can support and connect personally and professionally, not only during the residency year, but for lifelong professional relationships.
Effective mentoring requires a deep commitment, which includes critical planning and problem solving, consistent reflections, effective modeling of classroom practices, and, most importantly, intentional relationship building. Because of the value of these essential mentor skills, we compensate Mentor Teachers. The payment plan can be found below:
- Daily Mentoring in the classroom – $2,100
- Summer PD (July 6th – 8th | 8:30-4:30) – $300
- Quarterly PLC’s – Up to $600

Each quarter we have a full day of professional development with all KCTR Mentor Teachers. We gather as Mentor Teachers to connect on experiences, deepen coaching practices, and craft a Resident development plan aligned with KCTR programming.
